Imaging @ MAD

The University of Westminster has been at the forefront of education in both photography and imaging science since the 1960's.

We remain one of only a few universities in Britain and Europe offering study in both the science and practice of all aspects of contemporary imaging in our BSc Photography and Digital Imaging, BSc Clinical Photography and MSc in Digital and Photographic Imaging, alongside art based Photographic degrees and Masters courses.

Beginning as a diploma in Photographic Technology at the Regent Street campus during the sixties, this soon became the first degree course in photography in the country. The course diversified later on, becoming two courses, the BSc Photographic Technology and the BA in Photography, both of which have continued to develop and are still running today (see below).

Image science encompasses study in a range of areas including the assessment of images and imaging systems, optics, colour science, image metrology and visual science. As the field has developed the courses have expanded to encompass principles of digital imaging and applied imaging.

Finally the staff are members of the Royal Photographic Society, regularly contributing to the RPS annual symposia, such as 'Digital Futures' and 'The Good Picture'. They are also members of the Society of Imaging Science and Technology. They regularly publish their work in the Journals such as the Imaging Science Journal and the IS&T Journal.
