Lecturer is world media 'game changer'
12 December 2008
Senior lecturer in media David Dunkley
Gyimah has been singled out for praise in an international
competition against some of the world’s biggest names in new
media.
David, whose website viewmagazine.tv has been at the
forefront of video journalism for over a decade, was commended for
"elevating narrative, multi-media journalism through tireless
experiments that push multi-media on a wide range of topics to a
higher standard" by the We
Media Game Changer awards.
The awards recognise people, projects, ideas and organisations
leading change and inspiring a better world through media. Other
recipients of commendations and awards included Barack Obama's
presidential campaign manager David Plouffe,
worldwide social messaging facility Twitter and Peter Gabriel's human rights
website Witness - The
Hub.
Judges, including Jim Kennedy, vice president of The Associated Press and Solana Larsen,
managing editor of Global
Voices, shortlisted 35 corporate companies, small start-up
businesses, social entrepreneurs and independent thinkers from over
150 entries.
David, who has recently been selected to sit on the judging
panel of both the prestigious International Video Journalism
Awards and the
Royal Television Society Awards, said: "Every one of the
entries to the competition was incredible. I am hugely taken aback
and humbled by We Media's recognition, and to be in such
company.
“The award is given to those who inspire
involvement and action through media, and provide example, insight
and inspiration for participants from all fields by demonstrating
how to navigate and lead the connected society. I’m proud to be
involved.”
