Student and Graduate - Code of Practice
We are here to help both students and graduates by providing employment opportunities which enable employers to fill their vacancies quickly and successfully with suitable University of Westminster candidates.
Before applying to any advertised positions, applicants should be aware of the following points:
All
current
students and
recent graduates
are able to register with Career Development Centre and access full details of all jobs advertised through our vacancy system. Your University login will remain active for 18 months after you leave the University.
All job vacancies are advertised in good faith, based on information received from employers. We cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies and you should check the accuracy of the information before accepting an offer of employment.
To maximise your chances of finding the right vacancy, be sure to read the advert carefully and ensure that you have the relevant skills and experience required for a particular job. If you do not do this, you will seriously decrease your chances of finding suitable work.
If applying for part time work during term time, carefully consider your own study commitments and make sure before applying for a job, that it does not compromise your studies. We recommend that full-time students only work a maximum of 20 hours per week during term time.
Always try and give at least 24 hours notice if you are unable to attend an interview with an employer. In the case of an emergency
always
telephone the employer.
If you do not attend an interview or fail to turn up for work without first contacting the employer with an explanation, it makes you look unprofessional. It also damages the reputation of the University of Westminster and its students. Such behaviour may result in your use of this service being restricted or you could be removed from our student database altogether.
Once you have accepted a job,
always get a copy of the terms and conditions
including hours to be worked, dates of employment, rate of pay, duties and responsibilities, amount of notice to be given by the employee and the employer agreed in writing before you start. If you accept an on-going position, discuss flexible working arrangements during the exam period in advance.
If you are dissatisfied with an employer and wish to make a complaint, you should email us at
careers@westminster.co.uk
and we will be able to advise you on what to do next. Please note that although we are happy to give advice and to approach an employer for an explanation of their behaviour, we are unable to represent you legally and will direct you to the
Citizens Advice Bureau
or other relevant agencies for further help.
Please ensure your contact details are kept up to date. If we do not have this information from you, we will not be able to contact you with details of suitable work.
We will not disclose your personal details to employers unless you give us permission to do so.
