Career Development Centre aims to establish an Employers
Code of Practice for employment opportunities to ensure that
employers/recruiters comply with recognised employment standards
and guidelines when advertising job vacancies on the university’s
FREE vacancy listing service.
The placement of an advertisement
with Career Development Centre shall be deemed acceptance of and
agreement to this code of practice.
All on-line job vacancies are advertised at the discretion of
Career Development Centre and the University of Westminster. Career
Development Centre reserves the right to edit listed vacancies
where necessary.
All employers and recruiters agree to:
- Supply full enquiry contact details, including address and
direct landline telephone number.
- Supply a job description, work type and duration of
employment.
- Disclose the salary or salary range
- Inform all candidates of the result of an application within an
agreed timeframe, and inform Career Development Centre immediately
when the post has been filled.
- Ensure suitability of any Career Development Centre candidate
and be responsible for taking up any references provided by the
candidate.
- Make available contracts of employment between the student and
the employer.
Career Development Centre reserves the right not to advertise or
endorse employment vacancies if they are deemed to be of a
potentially liable nature, could bring the university into any form
of disrepute, or if they are deemed in any way not to be in the
best interests of the students and graduates. In particular, we are
unable to advertise vacancies which:
- Do not pay the national minimum wage (except for voluntary
opportunities with a registered charity, not-for-profit
organisation, or community group)
- Pay on a commission-only basis, with no guarantee that the NMW
will be met
- Involve working from home or in an employer’s home, unless
relevant employer’s liability insurance is in place.
- Discriminate against candidates on the basis of sex, race,
disability, religion, sexual orientation or age, or other equal
opportunities legislation.
Please note we can only advertise graduate level freelance and
self-employed vacancies and are unable to include these on our
part-time or student placement listings.
Employers are advised to understand and adhere to the following
statutory legal requirements and provisions with regard to the
employment of students at the University of Westminster, in
conjunction with the Career Development Centre Student Employment
Policy and Procedure. For further clarification of this policy,
please refer to http://www.wmin.ac.uk/page-8319
This includes:
- Legislation against any bases of discrimination within
employment or the workplace, including sex, age, race, human
rights, disability, ethnic origin, etc. This extends across equal
opportunity to the revised Children’s Act (2004) and Working Time
Directive legislation (1998) concerning safe working hours for all
employees. Further clarification regarding these acts is available
from Government Equalities office or
Office of Public Sector
Information
- Compliance with minimum wage legislation requirements as
described by the National Minimum Wage Act (1998). Further
clarification is available from
Business Link
- Payment of tax or organisation of tax exemption arrangements,
National Insurance contributions, or submission of Declaration of
Income forms (P38) as necessary, to HM Revenue and Customs (Inland
Revenue)
- Full occupational Health and Safety regulation
- Provision of adequate work insurance covering students for
claims relating to sustainment of any damage or personal
injury.
- Particular reference to maximum work hour entitlements for
students as per the Career Development Centre Student Employment
Policy and Procedure. The policy suggests that students are
encouraged to work no more than 20 hours during term time.
Outside of term time the standard working week of 35 hours
applies.
Career Development Centre will endeavour to assist employers in
locating suitable student employees by advertising vacancies.
However, Career Development Centre and the University shall bear no
liability for any loss, damage or delay arising from the
performance of these services.

Failure to comply with this Code of Practice could remove
an employer's eligibility to advertise with Career Development
Centre. |
|
Career Development Centre also reserves the right not
to advertise any vacancy, which it deems unsuitable for
students.
