Foundation courses
Foundation programmes can offer students who are unable to
apply directly to a degree programme an opportunity to study the
subject of their choice and progress to a level where, on
successful completion of the course, they can enter onto an
undergraduate course.
Foundations are suitable for both mature students who may not
have formal qualifications, and also for students of any age
without the entry qualifications for our named degree
programmes.
The University offers foundation courses in a number of
subject areas, and there are also foundations especially for
international students who can study the subject of their choice
combined with English language modules. For a full list of
foundation courses on offer, follow the

link. Applications for these courses should be made through UCAS,
and advice about how to do this can be found within the
undergraduate
students section.
Foundation Degrees
Direct preparation for the world of work is being provided
through a new course model - the Foundation Degree -
involving employers in the design of the programmes that are
delivered in the University's associate colleges and in the
workplace. Young students taking their first step in higher level
education and training, and mature students planning job
progression or getting back to work after a time out of the work
environment are all provided for through this new degree course.
Typically the course lasts for two years of full-time or three
years of part-time study; a further bridging programme of 15 weeks
is designed to support Foundation Degree holders transferring to
the Honours degree stream at the University of Westminster.
Partnerships between the University, the colleges and
employers support the delivery of course that include Professional
Photography, Construction, Surveying and Building Engineering.
There are more details about these courses in our
prospectus.
