From time to time people may need time off from work for
compassionate reasons, and it may not be appropriate or practical
for them to use annual leave to cover their absence. It is the
University's policy to respond sympathetically in such
circumstances and line managers have discretion to agree to special
paid leave of absence to be taken. Examples of such circumstances
would include:
Bereavement
Staff should be given time off to attend funerals or remembrance
services of relatives. In the case of the death of a partner,
parent, sibling or child, or if the employee is responsible for
organising funeral arrangements etc, additional special leave of up
to three days may be granted.
Major domestic difficulty
such as life threatening illness of a dependant or close
relative.
Moving House
Staff should be allowed one day leave with pay for moving house
provided this is agreed in advance with the line manager.
